July, 2013 Newsletter
June Match Results
Last month was a great month for matches at Fort Harmar. Participation at the various matches was very good. Remember, all matches are staffed by volunteers that give their time to ensure the shooters have a great time. If you haven't volunteered for a match this season, please try to do so in July. With the big Glock match at the end of the month and the IDPA the week before, we will need quite a few volunteers. Drop us an e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know which match you want to volunteer for. The more volunteers we have, the easier it is to rotate people around so no one is stuck out in the sun all day.
Congratulations to the following top 3 shooters in each match;

Women on Target
Ladies, don't forget to tell you lady friends and family about the Women on Target program that is coming up on September 28. Register early by going to www.fortharmar.com and printing off a copy of the registration form. This program has been growing every year. Lets make this year even bigger. This fantastic introduction to firearms and shooting sports is funded by grants from the local Friends of NRA. It is a great beginner program for the ladies that don't have much experience with guns.
A New Distinguished Expert
Congratulations to Savannah Schaad for recently being awarded The NRA Distinguished Expert pistol rating. The NRA awarded her a Distinguished Expert medal and plaque for her accomplishment. Great Job Savannah!
Indoor Range Work
Sometime in the near future, work will begin in the indoor range to remove and brick over the windows in the range area. Right now they are covered with steel and the steel acts as a great heat conductor on hot days making the range area very hot. After this work is completed, the range should be noticeably cooler on the hot days. The club voted to approve $3000 to have this work done and it should be completed soon.
Raise your hand if you wanted to be a cowboy at some point in your life. Now you can be one. At least you can one day a month. Dale Wilson and Mark Wunderlich, the cowboy match directors, would like to invite anyone that wanted to be a cowboy out to their monthly matches. The next one is Sunday July 14. Registration starts at 9am and there is a mandatory safety meeting at 10am. All SASS (Single Action Shooting Society) rules apply and can be found at www.sassnet.com Wear your best cowboy hat, boots, long sleeve shirt and non-logo jeans and bring your gear for a day of shooting cowboy style. The match costs $10 and you will need non jacketed lead ammo limited to 1000fps max for pistol and 1400fps max for rifle. You will need 50 rounds for your rifle and pistols and 25 for your shotgun. You will need 2 single action pistols .32 cal or larger, a lever action or pump action rifle .32 cal or larger and a side by side or 1897 pump or 1887 lever action shotgun. Also don't forget the mandatory eye and ear protection. Even if you don't have all the gear come on out and watch the fun. Spectators are always welcome.
Our club is growing every month. Right now there are nearly 700 members. If any member has any ideas for improvements, new types of shooting matches or sports or ideas for this newsletter, please drop us an e-mail or, better yet, bring your ideas to the monthly meetings. They are held the first Wednesday of each month at the indoor range at 7PM.
