Women on Target
74! That is the number of women who have already signed up for the Women On Target program to be held Saturday September 28. The WOT committee has been working hard to put on another great program this year. They have put together a program that includes safety training, firearms familiarization, a pistol raffle, lunch and a goodie bag for all attendees. Club volunteers are needed to help support the large number of women so if you are interested in helping out call Melissa or Scott Saltzwedel at 740-373-4574 to get your name added to the list. Family Fun Day
The Fort Harmar Family Fun Day is rapidly approaching. In a little over a month Fort Harmar will be hosting their first club member picnic for all club members. The club will provide the meats and every family is encouraged to bring a covered dish to add to the feast. We have several activities and demos scheduled throughout the day to add to the fun. Bring your family and come out to spend a day with the other families. Remember, eye and ear protection is mandatory when the range is hot so don't forget to bring them for all of your family members. Also, since safety is paramount at FHRC, no loaded firearms will be carried around or displayed that day. Any shooting or handling of firearms done that day will only be done under the direct supervision of a range safety officer. Range safety officers can be identified by either an orange safety vest or a blue and gold match director polo shirt. Leave your CCW pistol locked in your cars and remember there will be children running around so be safe. Congratulations!
Mike Steinel, a member of the 4H/Fort Harmar Rifle Club rifle team, has made us proud again! In July, Michael, shooting in the 3 position air rifle match, posted a fantastic #2 in the nation in the CMP National Championship, a #4 in the NRA National Championship and a #6 in the USA Shooting National Championship. Three top 6 scores in three national matches in one weekend! To add to his great performance, Michael also shot on the Ohio Rifle and Pistol Association junior team that finished the triad of championship matches with a gold in the NRA Nationals, and 2 silvers in the USA National Junior Olympic championships and CMP Nationals. One weekend, 6 matches and 4 medals. Michael, that is absolutely fantastic. Congratulations from all of us at FHRC. We are proud of you! Match Changes
The Cowboy Action and Cowboy Long Range match directors are changing the times of the two matches they are holding on October 13. The Long Range CS match will run from 1pm to 4pm on that day and the Cowboy Action match will run from 10am to 4pm. If there are any question about these matches, please call Marshall Coal Run Willey AKA Dale Willson at 740-525-3663. Ladies Only Defensive Pistol
The last for the year Ladies Defensive Pistol match was held on August 24th. 6 women showed up to shoot the match and fun was had by all. Congratulations to Cat Robart for taking the win with Marsha Brletrick-Ward, Beverly Stacy, Sarah Gregory, Lana Tuten and Dee Michael filling in the next five spots. The following is a letter from the match director, Bev Stacy, that she wanted to be included in this newsletter. ì Three matches were held at Fort Harmar Rifle Club for ladies only (Ladies Only Defensive Pistol Matches) this year. We had fourteen ladies who participated at one or more of these matches. I would say they had a great time shooting because most all of them shot thru and then immediately did a re-shoot. For those who have not participated, I encourage you to mark your calendars when the 2014 schedule is posted. These matches teach you how to protect yourself in real life situations when a threat is imminent and you may be forced to protect yourself with a gun that you keep in your possession. Most of all, it is a day out with other women who love the sport of shooting. A big THANK YOU to the volunteer range officers who gave their time to these three matches. They designed and ran the stages. As a match director, it certainly made my job easy. Next year, Lisa Fought will be the match director and I thank her for stepping up and carrying on this match. Bev Stacy, 2013 match director, Ladies Only Defensive Pistolî Silhouette Match
The final silhouette match for the year will be held on Sunday September 15 from 9am to 3pm. If you haven't shot one of these matches you are missing out on a challenging and fun match. Bring your 22 rifle or pistol, with or without optics, out to the rifle range and have some fun. It is a great way to tune up for squirrel season for all you hunters. New Website
Gary Bosworth, the new FHRC webmaster, is hard at work creating a new website for our club. No word yet on when it will go live but this writer has seen a demo of what he has created and it is great. It is a completely new look for the club and will be easier to maintain and update. It also will include a video of how to drive to the outdoor range that will make it easier for when you have to give someone directions. In the meantime, be sure and go the Fort Harmar Facebook. Match scores and club information will be posted there. It is at August IDPA
The August IDPA match was the best of the year. With 82 entries, the shooting was fast and furious all day. The FHRC Sunday Study Group did a great job creating and running 5 challenging and fun stages. The IDPA match directors would like to thank the SSG for putting on a great match and for making their jobs easier that weekend. The following list is the top finishers in each division and class;
